Comparing Ebola to Other Diseases

Ebola, formerly known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever, is a viral illness that is often severe and fatal in humans. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the initial symptoms include fever, weakness, muscle pain and sore throat, all of which can be overlooked as symptoms of common illnesses.

Guardian.com sought to visually present the infectiousness of various pathogens. The graphic below  presents the rate of infection and the average case fatality rate of various diseases. This hopefully gives us a data-centric way to understand the most infectious and deadly diseases and contextualise current events.
