Represent Jamaica at YCCC 2017

Jamaican youth, you are being invited to let your voice be heard at the 3rd Youth Climate Change Conference, as a special Jamaica negotiating delegate. The conference will be held October 10-11, 2017, at the Jamaica Conference Centre in Kingston. This year’s event will bring together youth from around the Caribbean and Japan to deliberate on the theme, ‘Our Climate, Our Voice, Our Change.’

Four-member delegations of youth representatives, ages 14 – 29, from each participating Caribbean country, will be negotiating propositions on responses to climate challenges from a youth perspective. One member of the Jamaica delegation will also be selected to attend COP 23 in Germany.

To become a member of the Jamaica delegation, please send a statement outlining your views on:

  • What makes you the ideal delegate representative?
  • What do you consider to be the top three climate change risks impacting Jamaica?
  • How are you taking action to combat climate change impacts at school, or in your community?
  • How would you like to see Jamaican youth respond to climate challenges?
  • What approach would you recommend to policy makers to:
    • encourage youth engagement on climate change
    • to take action on climate change as a country

The deadline for submission is midnight Monday September 25, 2017. The submitted statement should be:

  • A maximum of 600-words
  • Typed and double spaced
  • Written in Standard English

 

Criteria for Judging:
Submissions will be assessed on accuracy of information, analysis of presented data/facts, writing style
and use of language.

 

FINAL SELECTION
Finalist will participate in a debate-styled pitch presentation selection process, with a judging panel, on
Friday September 29, 2017. Educational institutions and youth in general have an important role to
play in safeguarding our future. Be a climate change hero this October. Represent Jamaica at YCCC 2017!
