Commonwealth Women in Leadership Essay Competition

A call for entries has been issued for the Commonwealth Women in Leadership Essay Competition. Are you a young person in the Commonwealth aged 15 and 29? Are you passionate about issues affecting women in leadership and enterprise and would you like to influence the Commonwealth Women Affairs Ministers Meeting?

Then make your views count and enter the Commonwealth Women in Leadership essay competition by answering either of the following questions:


How and why should governments encourage women’s leadership?
How and why should governments encourage women-owned enterprises?
Deadline for submission of entries 8 April 2013



  • All youth in the Commonwealth are invited to participate
  • You must be between the ages of 15 and 29 years


Criteria for evaluation
  • The evaluation will be based on a number of criteria which will guide the quality and standard of work expected for the competition. The essay should:
  • be word processed and must not exceed 1500 words;
  • be submitted in size 12pt Arial font and be presented in 1.5 line spacing;
  • be appropriately referenced and include a bibliography of references (where applicable);
  • include a fully completed cover page, obtainable from
  • include your name and date of birth at the top right hand corner of each page;
  • be submitted to [email protected] or by post to:

on or before the deadline of 8 April 2013
Essays received after this deadline will NOT be entered in the competition.
Plagiarism will result in disqualification.
Only essays with a cover page will be considered.

The winner will be sponsored to participate in the 10th Women Affairs Ministers Meeting (10WAMM) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 17 to 19 June 2013.
