The Jamaica Union of Tertiary Students (JUTS) has been organised at the national level from 1972 by government in its democratisation plan within the education system and the subsequent legitimization of Students’ Council by way of the Education Regulations 1980. The JUTS is a democratic, independent, non-profit, non-sectarian and non-partisan student organisation comprising a confederation of student governing bodies -the students’ councils- in colleges and universities across Jamaica. The JUTS has a mission to represent the tertiary students and the young adult population of Jamaica through promoting and maintaining their educational, social, cultural and general interests.

Application for vacant JUTS positions opens on January 23, 2017 and close on February 28, 2017. Election will be held in March 2017 and Appointments will be conducted in April 2017.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

All applicants must:

  1. Be a member (present/past) of the executive body of their School’s Students’ Governing Body
  2. Be endorsed (a nomination moved and seconded) by the General Membership of JUTS, OR
  3. Provide a list of 30 names, signatures, and contact information of tertiary students from three (3) tertiary institutions indicating their support for your nomination. Optional but highly recommended for Interim Applicants.

Kindly Include The Following In Your Application:

  1. Recent passport sized photograph or digital photograph
  2. Signed Student Release Form - (Download from http://www.jutsja.org)
  3. Signed Student Governing Body Recommendation Form- - (Download from http://www.jutsja.org)
  4. Signed Nomination Sheet (If Applicable)

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Applications should be submitted by February 28, 2017 to the Jamaica Union of Tertiary Students, The Youth & Adolescent Policy Division, The Ministry of Education, and Youth & Information: 4-6 Trafalgar Road, Kingston 5.
  • Student/Service Release Forms and Student Governing Body Recommendation Forms must be submitted at time application submission.
  • No late applications will be accepted, if mailing will delay the timely submission of your application, then it should be sent via email to [email protected], facsimile 978-2948 or hand delivered.
  • Applications are open to students who will remain within the tertiary education system during their tenure.
  • All applicants will be required to attend training workshops and capacity building sessions prior to and after elections.
