Managing Stress

Everyone has stress and may feel there is nothing they can do about if.

Managing and coping with stress is all about taking charge. Take charge of your lifestyle, emotions, thoughts and the ways in which you attepmt to solve problems.

There is no one way to deal with stress, it is no “one size fits all” solution as we all respond differently.

One way of dealing with stress is to first identify the source or sources of stress. Identify your role in the creation or maintenance of it so that you may start to have some control.

Doing things such as:

o   Smoking

o   Drinking too much

o   Sleeping too much

o   Procrastinating

o   Blaming others and not taking responsibility for actions

May temporarily reduce your stress level, but, will not make it go away.

 

Things to consider:

o   It’s not healthy to avoid a stressful situation that needs to be addressed

o   If you can’t avoid a stressful situation, try to alter it.

o   How you think can an effect on your stress levels. Each time you think a negative thought about yourself, your body reacts.

o   Some sources of stress are unavoidable. In such cases, the best way to cope with stress is to accept things as they are.

o   Make time for fun and relaxation
