My World, My SIDS Launched

Are you aged 12-30? Can you commit two weeks or more of your time? Are you passionate about the future of small islands? Do you want to share your experiences with young people from other island nations?

UNESCO and UNICEF invite young people from Small Island Developing States to put on their thinking caps, sharpen their debating skills and join together to ensure that the young people of the Caribbean, Indian Ocean and Pacific contribute their vision for the future of small islands to the 2014 Global SIDS Meeting. The first small islands to the 2014 Global SIDS Meeting.

Selected young people from the Pacific, Caribbean and Indian/Atlantic Ocean regions will have a chance to participate in the preparation process for the SIDS 2014 global meeting ( by presenting youth voices at the regional and inter-regional preparatory meetings held in 2013. Through a series of regional conference in Jamaica, Fiji and the Seychelles, young people will be able to discuss the challenges for SIDS from a youth perspective and provide proposals for the post 2015 development agenda and next strategy for sustainable development in SIDS.

If you are passionate about your world and your island home, are an active youth worker and advocate, and would like to participate in this process, UNESCO and UNICEF are offering to support the travel costs for selected young peoples’ participation in the regional youth conferences. Self-funded applicants will also be considered.


The Application Process

  1. Tell us why you want to be involved in the meeting and your vision for your country/region/SIDS in 2050. You can do this via an essay, poem, painting, song, video or any other format.

  2. Complete the application form (have your guardian and chaperone sign if you are under 18 years of age).

  3. Send your application with scanned copy of your passport to [email protected] no later than 30 April 2013.
