New Youth Council Elected

A new National Youth Council body was elected on Saturday, November 28 at the St. Hilda’s High School in St. Ann. One thousand two hundred and twenty-six voters cast their ballots to select six winners for posts in the Council. The newly elected body includes: Ryan Small as Chairman, Lanisa Rhoden, 1st Deputy Chair; Shannon Dale Reid, 2nd Deputy Chair; Jamar Howell, Financial Controller, Melissa Matthie as General Secretary and Jermaine Anderson as Public Relations Officer.

The National Youth Council is the umbrella organisation for youth clubs across Jamaica, which seeks to foster youth participation at the community level, and advocate for youth participation in all levels of governance through providing assistance in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of government policy regarding youth.

Director of Youth Policy and Programmes for the National Centre for Youth Development (NCYD), Mrs. Roberta Brown-Ellis said that “this new Council will help to reenergize and reorganize community youth clubs so that their members can take on more active roles in community development and national legislation”.
