Nominations for Prime Minister's Youth Awards Extended

KINGSTON, October 27, 2011: The National Centre for Youth Development (NCYD) has extended nominations for the Prime Minister’s Youth Awards to Friday, November 4th. Mrs. Roberta Brown-Ellis, Head of the NCYD, stated that “this was to ensure that all categories of youth are included and that young people are given another opportunity to be nominated. We’re encouraging more nominations of young people in international achievement, agriculture, arts & culture, academics and organizational service categories”.

Interested persons must drop off their nominations, along with relevant supporting documents, to 16A Half Way Tree Road, or the NCYD’s parish offices in: St. James, St. Mary, St. Ann, Portmore and Portland. Nominations can be scanned and emailed to [email protected].

Mrs. Ellis expressed that “last year, 32 young people were awarded and this year’s Awards promises to be bigger and better in light of the fact that it will be a part of Jamaica 50 celebrations. We want to have as many applicants as possible”.

The Prime Minister’s Youth Awards is the highest honour bestowed upon youth between 15 and 24 years old. The Awards has nine focus areas, namely: Agriculture, Arts & Culture, Academics, Entrepreneurship, International Achievement, Journalism, Leadership, Youth in Service and Sports. An Organization Service Award is also awarded to an entity that has given sterling service to youth development.
