NSSC Executive Empowered & Ready to serve!

The National Secondary Students' Council - NSSC, elected national and regional executive members recently completed their Retreat and Capacity Building Workshop, hosted during August 19 - 24, 2019 at the Tropic View Hotel in Mandeville.
 
The annual workshop is coordinated by the Youth & Adolescents Policy Division of the Ministry of Education, Youth & Information. Coordinator of the workshop Ms. Ruth Lawrence stated that "This year's workshop was phenomenal and the enthusiasm of the council members, added to the success of the workshop." 
 
President-elect of the 2019-2020 executive Denver Smith lauded the MoEYI for the excellent session that was not only facilitated by the ministry officials but by their peers.

He further added that "throughout the week, we were engaged and motivated to represent the students of Jamaica. Though we cannot predict future challenges, I am confident that my team and I will to the best of our ability to actively tackle and mitigate them as they come. It's time that we arise and change the game, we are brilliant and committed students eager to make the lives of our peers better. "
 
All members of the council were exposed to topics such as advocacy, leadership, events management, council management, drafting of government position papers to name a few.
 
The council promises that this year, their focus will be on student mental health, safety and security and nutrition. Equally they will be re-launching their Rights, Responsibility & Respect Campaign in November 2019.
