Ruth A. Lawrence

Ruth Lawrence has spent a decade giving her life to servicing her country and fellow youth, it is because of this she was awarded the Prime Minister’s Youth Award for Excellence (2011) in the category of Youth in Service. She can be found serving on several boards and committees some of which include; The Broadcasting Commission’s Monitoring and Compliance Committee; the United Nations Population Fund Youth Advisory Group, National Child Month Planning Committee, National Steering Committee for World No to Tobbaco Day Activities and UNFPA State of the World Steering Committee for the Launch of the State of the World Report 2013 just to name a few. 

Ruth has a Bachelor of Science in Management Studies (Marketing) from the University of the West Indies, Mona and Post Graduate Certificate from the Entreprenuership Development Institute of India, she also has certification in the following areas to name a few:

  • CARICOM CEBO Trainer of Trainers (October, 2019)
  • JMMB Jonan Duncan Foundation - Certified Facilitator (2018)
  • Certificate: Project Management & Speech Writing & Public Speaking (UWI, 2016)
  • Women in Media and Leadership Training Ceritificate (UNWOMEN & WMW, 2015)
  • Training in Monitoring and Evaluation (UWI, 2012)
  • Certified, Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health Educator (Red Cross 2010)
  • Training in Leadership, Advocacy & SRH Legal Issues (UNFPA, 2010)
  • Child and Trauma Grief Training (CDA, 2010)

Since officially joining the YAPD team in 2011, Ruth has given exemplary support to young people and has had many successes in the projects/activites which she coordinates or assists with. Some of her successes include:

  • Coordinator National Secondary Student Council (NSSC) & Jamaica Prefects' Association 2013-Present
  • The mobilization of over 1500 + persons to participate in the Diageo Learning for Life – Bars to Go Training 
  • Spearheading the planning and execution of the Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Forum Nov 2011. Approximately 250 young sports men and women 15-24 participated.
  • Conducting SRH related empowerment session with approximately 1500+ young persons; inclusive of condom demonstration and sexual health & rights (Ongoing)
