The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) is conducting a School-to-Work Transition Survey (SWTS) on behalf of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the International Labour Organization (ILO). The data collection for this survey commenced island wide on February 1, 2013 and is expected to last for approximately two (2) months.   This survey examines the experiences of persons 15 - 29 years old as they leave school and seek to transition into the world of work.

The School-to-Work Transition Survey will assess:

  • why finding and attaining decent employment is proving to be an elusive goal for many of today’s youth;
  • who is impacted as it relates to the transition from school to work;
  • wherearethe more disadvantaged youth located;
  • how the disadvantages are manifested; and
  • what is the impact on the youth and the long-term economic development of the country.

The Government of Jamaica is seeking the support of Jamaica in the data collection process, and asks for your kind cooperation in responding to the interviewers of STATIN.
