Youth Counselling

Counselling is the process of helping people to become better individuals, who will then be better able to contribute positively to nation building. It is geared towards helping persons to become holistically developed so that they can reach their full potential. Counselling creates a healthy environment to help youth cope with the stresses and conflicts of their growth and development.  Young people who are in trouble, those with behavioural and emotional problems can be held through counseling.

Society is rapidly changing and along with its changes comes several negative societal factors that  affect our youth. there is increasing crime and violence, child abuse, broken families, diseases, substance abuse and poor moral values. Young people also sometimes get confused with the constantly changing values and morals (eg. abortion and homosexuality.) that accompany societal changes. The results, far too many young people failing in schools because of indiscipline, lack of parental guidance, teenage pregnancy, drug abuse etc. , far too much young people are dying of AIDS, far too many young people on the streets in juvenile detention and more and more are dying from the gun.

If you are a youth in need of help and need somebody to talk to, counselling can help you today. Several useful counselling services with reputable counsellors are available in Jamaica. Counselling involves three basic steps:

Step 1   –   Exploration of your present state of being
Step 2   –   Exploration of where you want to be
Step 3   --  Charting a course of getting you where you want to be.

Counselling is a voluntary process whereby the client is willing to work towards change. Counselling can be done individually as well as in groups.
